1Bit Wonder

Yippee! One more netlabel. Just more music that has to be thrown away on the net for free as it is not good enough to come out on a "real label"? Totally wrong: We run 1bit wonder because we want to release music without any restraints. Music that we think deserves more than to circulate tape wise through the same car radios all the time. And nevertheless, we - probably like every other netlabel as well - will try to show that "free culture" does not mean "worthless" but instead can be a highly qualitative alternative to the deadlocked machinery of music industry.

It has been almost a year since you have heard something from Sven. This pretty massive collection of works, ranging from ambient to dancefloor techno, is one of the reasons why it took so long for his new release. Contributions are made by fellow 1bit-wonderians Juno6 (with one of his typical mellow techno tracks) and lately renamed Steffen Bennemann (delivering his most dancefloor-oriented production to date).

Since our start off, we have been looking for music that combines electronic with hand-made stuff. With Endlos, we finally found the perfect piece of the puzzle - just another amazing story of soul brothership written in our wonderful home city of Lipsia (Leipzig). This first Endlos EP is an excerpt of their 2004 album which was published as a very limited CD edition only. However, we think these songs are timeless: Enjoy seven epic pieces of deep electronica, fusing jazz with samplers, lo-fi...

Half a year of one bit wonder... Had great feedbacks and experiences so far, but still hungry for a lot more. Now with our first "Various Artists" compilation - bringing together the producers of our first five releases with promising new acts that we're sure to hear more of soon. Various artists, various styles. Some relaxing, some dancin'. And quite a good overview of what one bit wonder stands for...

During the last months, Juno6 has been one of the most active producers in our artist roster - and still every production out of his hands is a quality of its own. A wonderfully warm sound has become his trademark and can be seen as rare exception amongst digitally dominated netaudio scene. Very proudly we present this collection of six incredibly deep and melancholic downbeat tracks.

For our final release, Latex Distortion team up with singer/songwriter Gary West to deliver one of the most surprising packages of our whole catalogue: "Killed by a Fairy" is a diverse mixture of broken beat electronica, powering electronic rock and catchy guitar songs - a dauntless appeal for a world without musical boundaries.

Following his promising debut on our last compilation (1bit 025), Audiokonstrukte delivers a massive album for 1bit release #029. "Smart Echoes For Sensitive Ears" he says and indeed - beautiful melodies meet sluggish rhythms in a sound field between ambient and the almost forgotten genre of trip hop. Sorry, this release is not available anymore. Audiokonstrukte signed it to Mille Plateaux, it will see a re-release there in May 2010.

After their first release on 1bit earned so many praises, we are happy to see another EP by Endlos on our netlabel. This time, Mario and Daniel have put together exclusive live versions of five tracks from their last CD "Kein Grund zufrieden zu sein": Slowly flowing epics, melancholic dialogues of machines and guitars. Live support comes from Johannes Russ (bass & guitar) and Martin (sax).

Kiorda keeps his personal tradition of coming up with surprising new stuff on each release he does for us. This time he makes you dive deep into ambient: Glitchy sounds and melodies of engrossed elegance create a haunting yet still wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. With each minute passing, "3" becomes an even more massive trip inwards, sucking you in for its whole run time of about half an hour.

With 1bit 027, Frank steps up for another beautiful ambient release: Melodies and bass lines in perfect harmony, backed up by soft broken beats. Being a big fan of Juno6, Frank took his "Inside the Blue" and gave it the unique Molder handwriting while the title track "Come With Me" shows us another, previously undisplayed side of himself: Forward striving and full of energy. This album impressively shows Frank's producing abilities and his development as an artist. We say:...

New year, new faces: Following the steps of Igor O. Vlasov, Anton Lanski is our second recruitment from Russia. He debuts with an EP rich of flawless tech house - harmonic melody layers surrounded by tasty rythms. Driving and relaxing at the same time - a perfect match with the sound of 1bit, foreshadowing feelings of spring in the midst of cold winter nights.

It took us a long time to get this collection done, but finally we have a new compilation! And again, it's a perfect cross section of the sound of 1bit. Starting with pumpin' minimal tech the journey continues via dub and funk to reach its end with beautiful electronica and rough blues sounds. Old faces meet new artists - great talent joining the 1bit family. Have a listen and join us in looking forward to another year of 1bit sounds!

How Glander became part of our family is one more of those wonderful stories how music can connect people: As we approached him for a release on our label, he had already been working on tracks for us. After his highly acclaimed debut on our last compilation, Glander delivers six more tracks for 1bit 026. Melodies and sounds in constant transaction, chords echoing into deep space, all carried by solid bass lines. And to put the icing on the cake, Daniel Stefanik - dub brother in mind - returns...

Our favorite Canadian is back on 1bit: Happily, we present "Vapor Referral". Three new stunning pieces of glitchy digital deep tech - plus a remix by Steffen Bennemann for Le Cantin's "Granny" (original track appeared on 1bit 019). The perfect kind of stuff to close your eyes and dance to in early spring 2007.

Frank Molder with a funky DJ-mix of highly danceable bits. Starting with 1bit's very own Stalker, going totally mad with Latex Distortion and finally arriving with the warm overwhelming sounds of Kiorda Däkin. See the cover PDF (available at www.1bit-wonder.com) for a full tracklist.
